Phyllis Harris is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Legal Operations at Walmart Stores, Inc. In this role, Phyllis leads a team of attorneys and legal professionals in the areas of corporate affairs, employment, intellectual property and corporate governance law. In addition, Phyllis is responsible for data and analytics, diversity and inclusion programs, outside counsel management, and programs to support the talent development of Walmart’s legal team.
Prior to this role, Phyllis served as Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Walmart US and Vice President for Environmental Compliance where she was instrumental in building a best in class environmental compliance program and a “culture of compliance” throughout Walmart’s US entities.
Before joining Walmart, Ms. Harris spent twenty years with the US Environmental Protection Agency as a member of the Senior Executive Service serving as the Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance in Washington, DC and Regional Counsel in Atlanta, Georgia. Phyllis received her JD from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and her BA from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, one of the oldest women colleges in the South, where she serves as the Vice Chairman for the Board of Trustees.
Phyllis is a member of Board of Directors of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Environmental Law Institute and a member of the Advisory Councils of the Council of Legal Education Opportunity and the Wake Forest Graduate School of Sustainability. Ms. Harris is also the recipient of the 2001 Meritorious Executive Rank Award conferred by President George W. Bush; the 2009 Diversity MBA Magazine Top 100 under 50; the ABA Distinguished Environmental Advocate Award; and the 2016 Diversity Journal Women Worth Watching Award.
